Angela Bassett Chats with Andy Cohen About Her Upcoming Whitney Houston Biopic
Angela Bassett, the director of the upcoming, anticipated Whitney Houston biopic Whitney, visited Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday, and not only gave some insight to the film itself, but some little-known tidbits about the late superstar.
Bassett—wearing a gorgeous Victoria Beckham top—answered questions from host Andy Cohen about and revealed that Houston, her co-star on the hit 1995 drama Waiting to Exhale was a regular person and, as Bassett fondly recalled, "She was a great bowler."
The actress/director also openly talked about the nature of the film, which airs on Friday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime. Bassett noted that Whitney primarily focuses on the early years of Houston's life. "We know how it ended up ... but there's a lot that goes into making a person who they are." Bassett, who said that figuring out "how to differentiate all the love scenes" was her greatest challenge on this project, also said that she portrays Houston's ex-husband Bobby Brown honestly and that the couple shared "real love."
