An American Woman Just Married a Real-Life Prince After They Met in a Club

Stop the presses, because an American woman just joined a royal family.

No, not the British royal family (though Suits actress Meghan Markle reportedly might be on her way there with Prince Harry), but the royal lineage of Ethiopia.

Ariana Austin met her future husband Prince Joel Makonnen at a nightclub in Washington, D.C., and they hit it off, despite the fact that he conveniently didn't tell her he was royalty. If this sounds like the plot of a rom-com, you're totally right, and thankfully, the IRL ending of this story was equally as heartwarming.

After dating for a bit, Makonnen told her the truth that he is the grandson of the last Emperor of Ethiopia, a direct descendant of King Soloman and the Queen of Sheba. Eventually, the two got engaged, and they married earlier this year in September.

“It’s unbeatable heritage and history,” Austin told The New York Times about her new family's lineage. “It combines sheer black power and ancient Christian tradition.”

Even though they are royals, Austin and Makonnen have pretty down to Earth jobs. As People reports, Austin works in philanthropy, while Makonnen works in the international legal affairs department of a Japanese pharmaceutical company.
