Allison Williams Is One of Hollywood’s Biggest Book Worms—Let Her Explain Why

You’d think an actress as cool as Allison Williams would choose to spend her Thursday evening posted up inside a buzzy new bar, but as we learned last night in Manhattan, there’s one place she’d rather be: The New York Public Library (NYPL). In fact, Williams, who amped up the atmosphere's "It" girl factor upon arrival, was especially eager to take a look at the research institution’s extraordinary collection of books, which she was on hand to celebrate at a dinner hosted by Chanel.

“I am over the moon about this event tonight,” she told InStyle at the party, explaining why, exactly, she’s a huge fan of centuries-old works of literature. “I was an English major. I was lucky enough to go to Yale where there’s an incredible book library called the Beinecke Rare Book Library and I spent a lot of time in there looking at old folios,” she revealed. “There’s also this club called The Elizabethan Club, it’s actually known as the Lizzy, where there’s incredible old folios of Shakespeare works and there is a Gutenberg Bible at the rare book library.”

Luckily for Williams, the NYPL had a Gutenberg tome on display too. “I’d like to see this one to see how they differ and just broaden my collection. And then of course all of the other books because I like anything that has existed for a long time,” she said. “I’m like salivating over it.”
