Robin Thicke Pays Tribute to His Late Father, Growing Pains Star Alan Thicke
If we needed yet another reason to look forward to the end of 2016 with its slew of celebrity divorces and the deaths of numerous icons, the sad news that a beloved actor has passed is it.
A rep for Robin Thicke has confirmed that his father, Growing Pains star Alan Thicke, passed away Tuesday night at the age of 69 from a heart attack. The beloved TV icon and NHL fan was reportedly playing hockey with one of his sons, Carter, in California when the attack happened.
The 39-year-old singer broke his silence on the tragedy by sharing a simple tribute on his Instagram, writing, "My Father passed away today. He was the best man I ever knew. The best friend I ever had. Let's all rejoice and celebrate the joy he brought to ever room he was in. We love you Alan Thicke. Thank you for your love. Love, your grateful son."
Thicke also opened up about the loss in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, referring to his father as "The greatest man [he] ever met."
"The good thing was that he was beloved and he had closure. I saw him a few days ago and told him how much I loved and respected him," the singer told the newspaper.
Other stars also took to social media to express their condolences and pay tribute to the iconic actor, including the actor's other son Carter, 19, who tweeted alongside a photo of him and his father, "Today I lost my best friend and my idol, and the world lost one of it's finest. You are a legend and I love you Pops. Until next time."
