Who Knew Adele Is Kate Winslet’s Titanic Doppelgänger?
Hello, Kate Winslet? Is that you?
Nope, just Adele. This year, we’ve seen the shape-shifting Grammy winner put forth her campy side on Instagram, sharing photos of herself dressed up as an angel to officiate a wedding, and as Dolly Parton in 9 to 5.
Over the weekend, Adele celebrated her 30th birthday with a Titanic-themed party where she dressed up in costume as Winslet’s Rose DeWitt Bukater. And the resemblance is freaky. (But uh, where was Jack?)
She got Rose’s look down to a T, wearing a sheer black dress with ornate embroidery and her hair curled into a loose updo. Even the venue was a dead ringer for the Titanic film set, with an exact replica of the iconic wooden staircase from the 1995 film serving as a prime #photoopp backdrop. Oddly enough, there were also life jackets distributed as party favors. Guests included Mark Ronson, Alan Carr, Zane Lowe, and Aaron Paul.
If you need a closer look, we’ve got you.
On Instagram, Adele explained the obvious inspo behind the look. “Dirty 30! I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the next 30 years as I’ve been blessed beyond words in my life so far,” she wrote. “Last night was the best night of my life. Here’s a couple pics. I’m absolutely f—d, not sure I’ll make it out the house again!”
Unfortunately, not everyone loved the idea of recreating—and celebrating!—one of history’s deadliest shipwrecks. Over 1,500 people died in the infamous 1912 tragedy that the James Cameron film is based on.
Twitter users were quick to criticize, but, because this is 2018, those critics were swiftly told to stay in their lane by Adele's biggest fans.
For Adele, however, it appears that the party is already water under the bridge.
