When Aaron Tveit hit the red carpet at tonight’s Tony Awards, he was just happy to be surrounded by his peers.

“I’m excited to present tonight and just be a part of this,” the Grease! Live star told InStyle before heading inside New York's Beacon Theatre. “The Tonys are such a special night every year, so to get to be a part of it in this way and present—I couldn’t be more grateful for it.”

Tveit was most looking forward to seeing Broadway’s biggest stars take the stage. “The performances are always the best thing,” he said. “Only some people get to win awards, but for the performances, everyone gets to be a part of it. And it’s an amazing thing to watch.”

The star was also looking forward to seeing familiar faces inside. “The nature of the theater world, specifically, is that as you run into people that you haven’t seen recently, you fall back in,” said Tveit. “So it’s great to catch up.”

And while everyone would be catching up with Tonys host James Corden onscreen, we asked Tveit what song he would sing if he were to appear on one of Corden’s Carpool Karaoke segments on The Late Late Show. “You know, I’ve been singing a lot of Taylor Swift songs in the concerts that I’ve been doing,” he said. “And I actually had a concert last night and I sang, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” as my encore. So maybe some Taylor Swift with James in Carpool Karaoke.”
