Apple sure knows how to keep a girl on her toes. On the heels of last week's iPhone 6 and Apple Watch announcements comes the news that you'll be able to download iOS 8—the newest operating system for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch—today. Here are three reasons why you should upgrade ASAP.

1. Better PhotosEveryone loves a good photo, and the new iOS 8 is making it even easier to make every shot you take a good one. Built-in editing features allow you to adjust the brightness, exposure, highlights, contrast, and more of each photo you take, plus the smart composition tool will straighten horizons and give you the ideal crop for your photo (perfect for Instagram). And if you're more into videos, the new operating system also includes a time-lapse video feature.

2. Free Reading MaterialBooks are great, but free books—that's even better. When you download iOS 8, you'll automatically get iBooks, along with a collection of 10 books—all for free! Titles included are Private by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro, The Animal Book by Steve Jenkins, Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard, and Lost in Shangri-La by Mitchell Zuckoff. How's that for combatting morning commute boredom?

3. New and Improved MessagingWe've all been there—a group message seems like a good idea at first, but all of sudden you're stuck in a never-ending stream of texts with no escape route in sight. With the new operating system, you have the option to remove yourself from these group messages. Or, just put the group message on "Do Not Disturb" if you need it to be silenced while you're in a meeting (read: While you're binging on Netflix). Plus, you can now send video and voice messages just as easily as you can type a text.

But that's not it. Head over to apple.com to see all the new features that come with iOS 8.
