This year's nominees were announced Thursday morning by John Krasinski, Guillermo del Toro, Ang Lee, and Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif. Cate Blanchett earned a best actress nomination (for her role in Carol) as did Golden Globes best actress in a motion picture drama winner Brie Larson, for Room. Jennifer Lawrence, Saoirse Ronan, and Charlotte Rampling also earned nods (for Joy, Brooklyn, and 45 Years). Among the nominated leading men: Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl, Matt Damon for The Martian, and Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs.
