Everyone is obsessed with pictures (ahem, Instagram), so it’s no surprise that photos developed their way onto clothing and clutches. Photo printed items like tops and dresses first had a moment back in the late '90s and early aughts, but unlike yesteryear's teenybopper patterns, today's versions incorporate sophisticated images on sleek silhouettes. Designers Mary Katrantzou and Tracy Reese took an artistic route and used silk as a canvas to print scenic landscapes on feminine shapes, while MM6 by Maison Martin Margiela captured a peaceful fire-escape scene and copied it onto a classic baseball-style tee. No matter which view you prefer—city skylines, carnival scenes, ocean views, or a lineup of antique automobiles—each item lends a sense of escapism.
