First, you can Google it (boring), second, listen for the sweet sounds of migrant birds outside your window (what are they even talking about though?), and lastly, keep your eyes peeled for the first signs of trench coats in your area. This final method is perhaps the most foolproof of them all, as it's entirely reflective of the weather rather than some arbitrary marker, like the date. Since we like to consider celebrities our neighbors, it's their cues we're taking for seasonal shifts. And Anne Hathaway has just rung the alarm: Spring has officially arrived. In New York City yesterday, Hathaway topped off her black leather pants outfit with not one, but two Bulgari totes (a double bagger!), plus a trench coat from a brand so classic, it's practically synonymous with the garment: Burberry. Hathaway's black Burberry trench features the brand's signature plaid lining, a trademark as iconic as Louboutin's red sole or Tiffany's robin-blue cases. Of course, a trench with that much status has an equally aspirational price tag to match, her's retailing for $2,350. The same breathtaking decimal points can be found in other Burberry styles, some as much as $4,190. Even kids' trenches will set you back at least $680. Luckily, you don't have to go the Burberry route to get an extremely good, spring-ready trench. Nordstrom's stylish options start under $70 thanks to some well-placed sales, while key Amazon pieces are as little as $26. No matter what your budget, one thing's for sure: A trench will be the most versatile item in your seasonal wardrobe.
