I've always preferred wired headphones, but I also have 27 inches of hair; the wire would always get tangled in it while I was juggling 10 bags on the subway. "Fine, I'll succumb to convenience," I thought. But when Lily-Rose Depp made wire headphones a signature part of her aesthetic and Instagram accounts like WiredItGirls started popping up, I realized my decades-long dedication to over-ear headphones was right all along. Sarah Jessica Parker agrees. While out in New York City, Parker wore her now trademark sweatpants and babydoll shoes styling while holding a pair of Apple's extremely popular AirPod max headphones. These headphones are the perfect medium between style and practicality. They still give off a modern, updated take on the retro over-ear headphone look, but don't have a wire that could get entangled. For that very reason, they're majorly blowing up on TikTok right now, with every fashion girl on the app buying a pair. Over the last two weeks, I haven't been able to scroll on my FYP without coming across someone adding the AirPod Max headphones as a finishing touch to their #fitcheck or doing an elaborate unboxing of them to an unreleased Lana Del Rey track. The headphones have no doubt transcended from tech essential to 2022 wardrobe staple. With Parker's seal of approval, their place in the fashion zeitgeist of this year feels cemented. And while they typically are expensive at $549, Amazon does currently have them discounted for under $500.There are also plenty of other over-ear headphones available for as low as $17 right now. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel pretty sold on investing in a pair of AirPod Maxs. The list of pros goes on and on: TikTok and Sarah Jessica Parker love them, they won't get stuck in my hair, and it's only a matter of time until Lily-Rose Depp wears a pair (and then I'm positive they'll be impossible to find anywhere). RIP to my old AirPods, but this is an impulse purchase I know I won't immediately regret. Over-ear headphones forever.
