Uggs started as a sort of sock-boot that surfers in Australia would slip on after a gnarly tumble with some fierce swells. Today, they are synonymous with PSLs and controversy: to Ugg or not to Ugg?

Celebrities have picked the side (again and again and again) in favor of the odd shoes, and despite critics' wishes, they continue to discover new opportunities to promote their Ugg love. Ellie Kemper, en route to an appearance on Good Morning America, paired the cozy boots with a rather formal outfit. Her sweeping floor-length coat, buttoned-up blouse, and embellished velvet skirt stood in stark contrast to her squishy, fuzzy Uggs. (It's also worth addressing her Starbucks cup — could it contain a certain fall-favorite hot beverage?)

The looks begs the question: What can't these boots do? At this point, we wouldn't be surprised if they started popping up on red carpets and runways. But even though they're coming up in the world, Uggs will always be a good idea for cozy fall days when you're not doing much of anything.
