And while there is a new pair of $12 platform pool slides in town, nothing will every top Birkenstocks. They started the "ugly" sandal discourse and have a dedicated following. Every celebrity, from Katie Holmes to Britney Spears, owns a pair. And so does Gwyneth Paltrow, apparently. While at the DMV in Los Angeles, Paltrow went against all odds and looked incredible at what is notoriously one of the worst places ever. She also wore Birkenstocks unironically with a very cute fit. Typically when celebrities wear the famous sandal, it's with leggings or sweatpants. But Paltrow made us take the look seriously, all while taking notes on how to recreate it. She styled her black pair with vintage-looking light wash boyfriend jeans and a G. Label black puff-sleeve top that's since sold out (although there are plenty of similar options for hundreds less on Nordstrom). So if you're convinced Ugg season is over but aren't quite looking forward to wearing simple sneakers, Birkenstocks are the move. You can clearly wear them however you like and unlike any other trendy "ugly" shoe, these are the only ones widely beloved by Hollywood. According to Goop, they're "the most comfortable, quirky-yet-versatile, sensible-yet-sexy, trend-confounding shoes in existence; everyone should have at least one pair." Clearly, Paltrow agrees.
