Twenty years from now, when we're looking back at the fashion of the 2020s — the COVID era, perhaps — there'll be no avoiding the subject of tie-dye. There will be those among us who'll cringe at our past obsession with the patten we'll then find 'tacky,' just as we did in the lull between tie-dye booms of the '70s and circa late 2019. But there will also be those who can't wait to re-adopt the style and weave it in with whatever unimaginable trends have taken hold of culture in the 2040s.

This week, Emily Ratajkowski basically fell into that second pool, but instead reached back to what can only be described as the most ubiquitous, iconic '90s print there was: paisley. The model resurfaced the print in the form of another '90s classic, a bias-cut slip dress, from Australian label Realisation Par. Her call for the print's comeback was loud and clear.

Paisley's place at the helm of a decade (that's longer ago than we care to admit to ourselves) can be credited to other It girls of the era. Jennifer Aniston in Friends, Uma Thurman in The Truth About Cats and Dogs, Julie Delpy in... everything. A swishy paisley maxi skirt was a signal to all that you were at once "with it" but also a free spirit and a down to earth gal.

Paisley in these times has the added advantage of a little nostalgia-driven respite from the world. We may not know what tomorrow will look like, let alone the next twenty years, but we do know that our flowy paisley look would make Rachel Green proud. Shop Ratajkowski's slip dress, plus our other paisley faves, below.
