Rise and Shine—Literally—with These LED Wake-Up Lights
Winter mornings are no joke. Getting out of bed in cold weather is in itself an imposing challenge—and when you add total darkness to the equation, you'll likely be hitting the snooze button multiple times. But fear not, we've found help (at least for the darkness part). Meet the wake up light. These trusty nightstand additions act as both alarm clocks and sunrise stimulators to make rising and shining a bit easier (and shinier) in the winter. When we rise with the sun, the body's natural reaction is to ease up on sleep hormones and stimulate the ones that get us up and ready to go. These new lights emulate actual sunlight to make waking up that much less painful.
Consider this a boost to your productivity, happiness, and general alertness that even coffee can't provide. Keep scrolling for our picks and prepare to shock your coworkers with your new Pollyanna attitude.
Philips Morning Wake-Up Light
If we had to choose the master of the wake up light realm, it might have to be Philips. The brand makes a handful of these trusty lights, with varying capabilities and in different shapes. The HF3510 model acts as both a wake-up light with sunrise stimulation and a night light with a dusklike fade to send you off to sleep. Once you've set your alarm, for, say 7 a.m., the light will gradually increase for a half hour until it reaches your desired level of brightness (there are 20 to choose from). Cue one of the available nature sounds to help you rise, and you may find yourself leaping out of bed!
Sleepace Nox Smart Sleep Light
Although the Nox is touted as a smart sleep light designed to monitor and improve sleep quality, it also works as a smart alarm—and, as far as techy stuff goes, it's gorgeous. The Sleepace app tracks your sleep and lets Nox know when you're at a lighter point in your REM cycle, at which time Nox will coax you awake. While it may signal to you a few minutes early, it does so strategically to make getting up as early as possible. E.g., if your alarm is set for 7 a.m., but you're sleeping particularly lightly at 6:50 a.m., Nox will light up and play your selected alarm at 6:50.
Lumie Bodyclock Active 250 Wake-Up Light
This sleek little orb uses sun ray stimulation to gradually wake you. For those who need more of a kick, dawn chorus and rooster sounds are also available as faux-sunrise enhancements. You can choose a sun that rises in 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, or 90-minutes to help stimulate a natural wakeup whether you have tons of time or need your sleep hormones to start shutting down post-haste.
Nature Bright Sun Bliss 2 in 1 Portable Light Therapy and Wake-Up Light
Definitely the most straightforward of the bunch, the Nature Bright model is compact, very light, and perfect if you'd like to take your wake up light to go. With basic sunrise stimulation, this light turns on right to its lowest brightness setting (it doesn't work its way up to it) before growing until it reaches its brightest level.
