Tour the Novogratz Design Duo's Breezy Brazilian Beach House
Design duo Robert and Cortney Novogratz know a thing or two about zhushing up a home. The husband and wife design team and TV stars (they starred on reality home design shows 9 by Design and Home by Novogratz) are known for a distinctive style, blending modern and vintage high/low pieces to make a space special.
The couple has overhauled numerous spaces, whether it be hotels in major cities or their own estates around the world. Their newest book, Beachside Bohemian: Easy Living by the Sea ($37; amazon.com), is dedicated to their sprawling and stunning vacation home in Trancoso, Brazil.
“Trancoso is truly magical,” the couple tells InStyle. “It’s one of the last places totally unaffected and unlike other vacation spots, which can feel so homogenous and it doesn’t hurt that it has both tropical jungles and beautiful beaches.”
The duo took what was a shell of a house and transformed it into a slice of heaven with their surroundings in mind. “We designed with the tropical, unique environment in mind,” they said, adding that they used local woods—even fashioning shower heads out of tree trunks—and local stone. The sanctuary of a home is outfitted with comforting details like high quality cozy linens and collections of books and records for guests to enjoy (the family rents out the house to friends, family, and visitors when they are not staying there).
“We wanted everyone coming into our home to feel welcomed and at home, and we wanted as many people to experience and enjoy Trancoso as possible.”
