2019 is the year of blonde — and its many, many variations, apparently. While creamy blonde was stealing the spotlight as we dipped into the new year, it sounds like there’s yet another rendition that’s taking over the internet. And if you have trouble keeping up with getting your roots done, "smoked marshmallow" might just be for you.

The color, which is making its way around the web, was created by colorist Megan Martinez. It's a dimensional cool-toned blonde with grown-out, darker roots. In an inteview with Allure, the colorist specifically mentioned that its a great option for someone who prefers a low-maintaintence hair color that doesn't come with five million salon appointments.

Colorist Amy Clark of the Rob Peetoom Salon in Williamsburg, Brooklyn agrees that the "smoked marshmallow" name for the color is totally fitting, saying it reminds her of s’mores around a campfire.

"It’s a lived-in color look with a heavy dark root (like the burnt crisp of the marshmallow) melting into the sweet cool blonde tones at the mid-length and ends," she says. "Because of the intentionally brown root, this is a great option for those who prefer a low-maintenance balayage trend or whose hair might be damaged from previous color jobs."

She also adds that if you already have a few months of outgrowth from the root, you can choose this color and ask for balayage or foilage to bring brightness back around your face.
