Venus Williams Brought Back Her Signature Beaded Braids

Cue the nostalgia.

Venus and Serena Williams have made headlines for their tennis stats and on-court style since the late '90s. And in celebration of the release of King Richard — a biological film about the sisters' father, and first coach, Richard Williams — Venus brought back the signature beaded braids she wore to matches at the beginning of her career.

Venus walked the red carpet at the AFI fest in L.A. with her hair styled in a high, braided ponytail with face-framing beaded braids and bangs created by celebrity hairstylist Nikki Nelms. The silver, pewter, and clear beads matched the iconic athlete's silver metallic dress perfectly.

The tennis star confirmed her hairstyle was a nod to the early days of her career — with a twist.

"A lot of people ask me, 'Are you gonna wear beads again?' And I'm like, no, in African-American culture, kids usually wear beads. I was a kid when I wore them . . . Today, it was a fun moment to bring it all back, and to do it in a Nefertiti, Cleopatra, adult kind of style. It's one night only," Venus told Access on the red carpet.

Even if the beads only returned for one night, we're here for this moment of nostalgia.
