The 35 Most Naked Dresses of All Time

Naked dresses are perhaps the most impressive of all red carpet feats. While they may not always make the best-dressed list, they do require a certain breed of celebrity to pull off. Not only do you have to have the balls to risk a wardrobe malfunction, but you have to do it with enough confidence that you look fierce — not terrified — in the photographs. Take Naomi Campbell's appearance in Valentino's couture show during the spring/summer 2019 presentation. The legendary model gracefully strutted down the runway in a see-through gown with a ruffle skirt. (Click through the gallery for the NSFW photo).  Get the inside scoop on all your favorite celebrities with our FREE daily newsletter, InStyle Celebrity. Breaking news, relationship updates, hairstyle inspo, fashion trends, and more direct to your inbox! Let's not forget Rihanna’s infamous CFDA dress either. The girl rocked a completely sheer dress without a bra — and later remarked that her only regret was not wearing a bedazzled thong to match. That, my friends, is dedication. Then, there was the year 2015, when the Met Gala saw not one nor two but three naked dresses on the red carpet, all worn by Hollywood’s hottest A-listers. Jennifer Lopez, above, bared her famous curves in a custom Atelier Versace illusion gown. Beyoncé was nearly naked in Givenchy. And Kim Kardashian West almost looked modest in comparison in her sheer Roberto Cavalli dress, because no one’s getting naked without KKW joining in. Click through to see the best naked dresses of all time.

For the record, brunettes have just as much fun, and the proof is all over Hollywood. Thanks to our many celebrity hair crushes, we now know the options on how to go dark are endless. Whether you’re going for a deep chestnut or something touched with honey highlights, there’s a shade of brunette for you. Here’s a roundup of some of the hottest A-lister looks we’re coveting right now.

Taylor Hill

Her wings at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show deserved all the attention they got, but we think it's time to talk about Taylor Hill's signature brunette mane. Celebrity hair colorist Nikki Lee (the same pro responsible for LC and Lucy Hale's hair!) says Hill's shade is one of the hottest in Hollywood right now, calling it a rich chocolate brown.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen is basically always our hair crush. Girl gets it right every single time.

"I don’t touch Chrissy natural color, instead only add a mix of highlights and balayage to enhance it," says Tracey Cunningham, a Redken Celebrity Colorist. "I also finish with a Redken Shades EQ Gloss to her root area to prevent a line of outgrowth, which is a great way to keep her haircolor super natural-looking and low maintenance," she says.

Kendall Jenner

Except that one time she shocked the world and switched it up with Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner has pretty much always been a brunette, and we don't expect to see any platinum moments in the near future. But then again, never say never.

Lee says Jenner is one of her favorite celebrity brunettes right now. "For those of you who can't make it into the salon, but still want to achieve these rich brunette tones, Garnier's Nutrisse Nudes Collection and Garnier’s Olia Dark Platinum Collection will give you amazing choices to choose from," suggests Lee if you're attempting to get the look at home.

Crushin' on Mandy's mane? Us, too. "I use babylights, or fine highlighted strands, to add dimension to Mandy’s naturally brunette hair. It gives her hair a warm, seductive feel without looking overdone," says Cunningham.

Lucy Hale

Let's just throw this out there... Lucy Hale can rock any hair color. Blonde, red, brunette—she owns them all. She recently went back to her darker roots, but she's often seen with a brunette shade that holds a bit of a reddish hue to it. FYI, Lee says red is going to be huge this year, in case you're looking to make a change.

Kim Kardashian

"Kim can wear her hair blonde or brunette because she always nails it with the best tone for her skin," says Lee of Kim K.W. Yep, agreed!

"She's a more neutral brown, which is a mix of warm and cool. I prefer her brunette—she looks chic and classic!"

Jennifer Lopez

J.Lo's highlights are the highlight of every award show red carpet she attends. Sorry, excuse the pun, but we couldn't help it.

"Jennifer is another one of my ‘rooted’ brondes. I focus the highlights from her mid-length to ends and keep the root area darker with a Shades EQ Gloss," says Cunningham. "Again, it keeps the look natural with no line of demarcation, while minimizing the need for a trip to the salon every month."

Kerry Washington

It was hard to miss Kerry Washington's gorgeous hair at the Golden Globes. Those highlights should have won an award!

"Kerry's color it's a true deep ash brown with warm ombré painting highlights on the ends," says Miguel Angarita, mizu master colorist, of Washington's hair shade. "This is achievable by using extensions with lighter chocolate ombré accents or by adding a lighter brown tint on ends when the base is done to create the seamless transition of tone on tone. These particular combinations are effective and conservative with lots of sophistication and old Hollywood glamour," he explains.
