Celebrities Will Be Forced to Go Vegan at the 2020 Golden Globes
When you think of the annual Golden Globes Awards, the first thing that comes to mind probably isn't what the attendees will be eating during the commercial breaks. This year, however, the plant-based meal choice is stealing the spotlight.
That's right: According to the Los Angeles Times, for one night only, celebrities are being forced to go vegan (except for whatever snacks they sneak in their bags, of course).
In a statement to The Times, Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenzo Soria explained the decision, saying, “Over the holidays, we took time to reflect on the last year and began thinking about the new year and the decade ahead. The climate crisis is impossible to ignore and after speaking with our peers, and friends in the community, we felt challenged to do better.”
He continued, “The decision to serve an entirely plant-based meal was embraced by our partners at the Beverly Hilton, and represents a small step in response to a big problem."
So, what's on the menu? This year, they will be serving up a golden beet soup appetizer, king oyster mushrooms scallops (no actual scallops will be in the meal), a cheese-less wild mushroom risotto and roasted vegetables. They will also be serving a cocktail created by designer Laquan Smith called the Moët Golden Hour, which consists of champagne, pineapple, grapefruit vodka and simple syrup.
While the meal does look pretty great, it's not uncommon for stars to post photos of themselves getting down on some fast food after the award shows. After all, there is usually a lot of socializing and, um, partying involved. This year, it seems likely that — delicious food or not — the local In-N-Out will be pretty busy come late Sunday night.
