Why I love vintage
"I love the uniqueness of vintage clothing. The story behind it. The cut. The sense of history and old school glamour."

What to bear in mind when you're shopping for vintage
"Is it in good condition? You see some gorgeous pieces which are occasionally battered and no amount of love or repair is really going to save them. Are you actually going to wear it? It's easy to get a little carried away but you have to make that piece work for you. Also I think it's always worth paying extra if something is in mint condition. Most of all if a piece sings to you and it fits like a glove, snap it up. I always mean to get pieces altered, but being lazy this never happens. Its magic when it feels like the garment was made for you."

If you've never worn vintage before….
"Look out for a classic camel coat or mac as a good entry-level buy.  I was obsessed with Max Mara camel coats growing up, thinking they were the epitome of glamour.  My mum and I had a spat over my Nana's Aquascutum mac and camel.  Sadly for me, Mum rocked the camel much better than I did, so I settled for the Mac."

How to look after your vintage clothes so they last
"I try to keep everything zipped up in suit bags to keep the demon moths at bay. Vintage handbags go in dust bags. Also I wrap super precious pieces in acid free tissue. My mate Esme got me onto using a vodka spray with lavender - we’re still not sure if that’s correct but I like the idea of it."

My most treasured pieces

"My Nana's mulberry satchel and a 40s cobweb dress, which randomly turned up in the post one day from my friend Michi, a year after we spied it in a shop in Cambridge."

Because next season is all about the 70s...
"Look out for flares, midi skirts and stripes! I was obsessed with finding some high waisted, navy wide legged trousers - more 1940s, which suits my figure, but with a 70s kick. I swear I made them appear.  I thought about them, walked in my local charity shop and there they were for £4.99!  I’m desperate to get my hands on one of Hannah (Blooming Dreamer)'s indian gauze dresses. Just add ankle boots and a knit - boom!"

Mix it up
"The head to toe vintage look only suits some people. I have a few friends who can rock it because it suits their personality and lifestyle. I love a summer tea dress with tights, ankle boots and a chunky knit or a vintage silk blouse with high waisted jeans and white converse. Experiment, wear what you love and be true to yourself."

My favourite vintage shopping haunts

"I love filming in new cities and discovering treasures - Art Deco in Prague is a new favourite.  I found a 1930s version of an Ally Cappellino rucksack for a steal. I also love Cha Cha Cha in Muswell Hill, Painted Black in Crouch End, Vintage to Vogue in Bath and The Stonehouse Emporium in Whitby.

Where to find great vintage online

"Juno Says Hello is my go-to for red carpet events.  Rebecca Rose who runs it is a good friend of mine and has beautiful pieces in pristine condition. I love the bespoke nature of her service. She recommends dresses I wouldn't immediately choose and they always work. Blooming Dreamer is also brilliant for vintage treasures from around the world.  Hannah who runs it also does wedding garlands and transformed my mother's (almost) 40 year old flower garland into my own wedding bouquet this Summer. A great option for the more bohemian bride.

Where the best markets are

"North London Vintage Market is my local weekend haunt (the next one is on 6/7th Dec). I'm also planning my own festive pop-up vintage fair called Wrapped on Sat 6th Dec in London (Recession Studios, Unit 3, 210 Cambridge Heath Road, E2 9NQ)

Vintage fair 'WRAPPED' will take place on Saturday 6th December. You can nibble on tea and cake as you browse the vintage clothes and accessories, floral garlands, bouquets, and bespoke silver charm jewellery.
