How the Solid & Striped Designer Packs for Island Travel
There’s nothing more synonymous with summer than a Solid & Striped swimsuit. The brand that has singularly made one-pieces hot again is a favorite of Taylor Swift—not to mention fashion editors everywhere—and is known for simple, classic silhouettes in, as the name implies, solids and stripes (with a healthy dose of Bardot-worthy gingham). Here, the mastermind behind the latest styles, Solid & Striped’s design director Michelle Copelman, opens up her suitcase and shares what she brought for a recent trip to Harbour Island for a high-wattage photo shoot with Carine Roitfeld.
Read on for Michelle’s packing list!
Where to?Harbour Island in the Bahamas for the epic Solid & Striped ‘Swim Team’ photoshoot. We stayed at the gorgeous Pink Sands Resort and shot the campaign right on their pristine beach. We flew into Nassau and were boated to the island. Traveling and working with 13 supermodels and Carine Roitfeld was so inspiring and surreal. What topped it off was dancing to “That's the Way I Like It” by KC and The Sunshine Band with the entire crew.
Luggage musts?I bring two bags—both from Herschel Supply Co.
Over-packer or under-packer?I would say I’m a minimalist and have become really good at repurposing outfits. Age and experience have helped me be a much better packer.
What’s in the bag?
A vintage white linen romper from Narnia, Re/done denim shorts and mini-skirt, Saint James striped tees, K. Jacques leather sandals, a Dragon Diffusion leather bag, and our newly-launched suits in collaboration with STAUD. I personally wear the 90’s style ‘Lili’ cropped top bikini and the snap front Alice bikini in our new ribbed fabric. I don’t wear a hat, but I always wear classic Ray-Ban aviators and I had a Drake’s scarf tied around my head the whole time to tame the humidity! Skinceuticals sunscreen is also an island must.
WHAT DO YOU PACK IN MULTIPLES?
Striped tees, as they’re so easy to dress up or down.

What’s in your carryon?
I carried on my camp Herschel duffle. I always have Aesop hand cream, a banana, and a cozy men’s cashmere sweater for traveling. I always get cold so I make sure to have my dad’s hand-me down Ralph Lauren sweatshirt in camel that looks chic. I can’t read on planes so I always make a great relaxing playlist that I can enjoy while in the air. This time it was a lot of Sade to get me pumped for the island.
WHAT’S IN YOUR BEAUTY BAG?
Skinceuticals eye balm and Amore Pacific Treatment Enzyme Peel are my go-to beauty items. Keeping my skin hydrated and clean while working on the beach is key.
