Alexis Bennett models Spanx leggings

I can still remember when wearing leggings as pants outside of the gym was frowned upon. Thankfully attitudes have changed, because I find myself wanting to run errands, lounge around the house, and do just about everything in stretchy pants. The only place that I thought leggings were completely off limits at was in the office — until I discovered Spanx's Faux Leather Leggings ($98; nordstrom.com).

Yep, the same brand that has perfected shapewear is also responsible for making what has to be one of the most comfortable and fanciest pair of leggings I've tried. And get this: Victoria Beckham (Yes, THE Victoria Beckham) even complimented my outfit the day that I test drove the leggings.

To be clear, I would have never — like never ever — in a million years worn Spanx as pants to work if I knew that I would meet one of my style icons. But I was sent on a last minute assignment to interview Beckham, and the first thing she said when I met her was: "You look nice." (Three little words I'll never forget.)

I wore the leggings with a turtleneck and a plaid, longline blazer that day. But since then, I've worn them over and over again with so many different tops, from a chunky sweater to a button-up blouse. My favorite part about the leggings (and probably the reason why they have more than 2,000 five-star reviews): the built-in tummy control. Usually I'm against anything that would make me feel constricted, but I actually didn't feel any pressure from the waist-contouring band, which simply helped smooth and shape.

When Victoria Beckham complements your leggings, you know you’ve found the perfect pair.
