I have a theory that Katie Holmes owns 10 different pairs of Common Projects sneakers. It’s the only thing that could possibly explain how she apparently wears those white sneakers every other day without dirtying them at all. Seriously, in the past couple of weeks, Holmes has been spotted in different iterations of the same exact outfit. The key elements are as follows: Reformation jeans, an oversized Khaite envelope tote, and the damn Common Projects sneakers she apparently never takes off. Oh, and also a face mask because she has common sense and empathy for others. Chic!

When Holmes stepped out this weekend in New York City, style blogs wrongfully identified her as wearing the Common Projects sneakers. We’ve all gotten so used to seeing her in them, it’s just become the assumption. If Holmes is out in white footwear, they must be her go-to sneakers. But they weren’t. Instead they were white lace-up Oxfords, a slightly less babydoll version of the babydoll shoe trend everyone seems to be wearing

Lace-up Oxford shoes are like Mary Janes’ bigger sister. They look a little more professional and are less likely to show up in your American Girl doll’s closet. They still have the same vintage charm but are a little more unexpected. Zoë Kravitz will probably wear a pair with a tennis skirt in the coming weeks.

Holmes’s white lace-up Oxfords are the perfect alternative for her go-to sneakers because they’re just as comfortable and just as easily go with everything. The designer behind Holmes’s pair hasn’t been identified yet but considering how loyal she is to her other pairs of shoes, she’ll likely be wearing this trend for months to come. Chances are she has ten pairs of these exact flats already lined up.
