Is It Just Me or Is Every Celeb Wearing Sensible Flats Right Now?
Karlie Kloss, Sienna Miller, and Liv Tyler are on-board.
Celebrities may not always do the most sensible of things, but a quick scan through the recent street-style scene demonstrates that plenty of trendy A-listers are in agreement about this one smart and comfy footwear trend. Get ready to kick your heels aside for an equally chic, though vastly more sensible celeb-approved shoe that’s been cropping up like wildfire.
No, we’re not talking about sneakers, though the rise of the ever-popular athleisure craze has made sporty kicks a true mainstay in just about everyone’s wardrobe. We’re actually talking about classic flats — yes, that slip-on style everyone seemed to be wearing 10 years ago. It’s a shoe that combines the comfort of sneakers, depending on the sole, cushioning, and support, of course, with the elegance of a sophisticated heel. As such, it’s not really a huge surprise that it’s experiencing a comeback right now.
Everyone wants to be comfortable: plain and simple. And while fashion sometimes requires you to sacrifice being, well, just that to look stylish, celebs are proving that it’s possible to be both. Karlie Kloss, for example, slipped into her go-to Chanel ballerina flats while out and about in Paris. She styled the streamlined black shoe with light-wash jeans, a black tee, and two coats, including a red blazer and a belted cashmere coat. Her off-duty ‘fit looked as snug as it did fashionable, thanks to her cozy outerwear and those classic, comfy flats. Bonus: She could probably walk miles upon miles in Paris without any foot pain because of those shoes.
Liv Tyler wore black, pointed-toe flats while en route to her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. She teamed hers with black trousers and a black-and-pink striped sweater. Sienna Miller rocked ultra-comfy loafers for a West Village outing with her daughter last April, and Angelina Jolie opted for Chloe’s ‘Lauren’ Scalloped Ballet Flat on multiple occasions in 2020, recently wearing them for a dog-walking outing with her daughter Vivienne. (If that doesn’t prove the shoe’s comfort, we don’t know what will.)
Put simply, flats are the elegant, no-nonsense shoe that we all need in our lives right now. They’re easy to wear, come in a slew of different styles and colors, and are the ideal dressy comfort footwear option. Because let’s be honest, life’s too short to wear shoes that are so painful you want to cry. So give you feet some much-needed TLC by shopping our favorite celeb-approved flat styles below.
