Sometimes celebrities do things I really don’t like. Most recently, Blake Lively wore a $3,690 Max Mara Teddy coat I couldn’t afford. The audacity! Hailey Baldwin, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kim Kardashian, Katie Holmes, and Karlie Kloss have also all had the nerve to wear that exact same coat. Unfortunately, the more I see the coat, the more I wish I had a spare $3,690 to spend on my own, and the more I realize I really do not. It’s rude for all of them to step out in something most of us could only dream of, but thankfully there is Selena Gomez, who recently demonstrated her unwavering devotion to coats I can afford.

Sure, Gomez has been spotted in Saint Laurent boots and a Givenchy Turtleneck Cheetah Jacquard Jumper. I get it. I would do the same thing if I could. But she also chose to wear a $128 Free People cardigan in her Lose You to Love Me music video about her relationship with Justin Bieber. And I respect that. Revenge doesn’t have to be expensive, it just has to look good. And Gomez looks great in a cardigan I also own in three different colors.

I’m assuming Gomez understands how much this means to me because she keeps wearing jackets that look expensive but aren’t expensive. Maybe it’s not me, maybe Gomez is doing it for the people who swore they’d be better with their budgets in 2020. Or maybe she’s just doing it for herself. We love a girl who loves a bargain.

And these coats aren’t just affordable, they could easily be mistaken for designer. Evidently they’re comfortable too, since Gomez has worn a handful of them over and over again. From brands like Everlane, Mango, and Free People, her winter coat rotation most likely doesn’t look that different than your own. My budget has no choice but to stan.
