I own a coat so beautiful people risk their lives to tell me how much they love it.

Whenever I wear this coat, people stop whatever they’re doing to jaywalk through traffic, stick their heads out of moving cars, or hang their bodies out of five-story apartment windows just to say, “Hey, I really like your coat!” Just yesterday when I wore it while running errands, someone stopped their car in the middle of the street, rolled down their window, and screamed, “I just want you to know that coat is really, really, fresh.” Sometimes, on the subway platform, I catch people trying to snap a photo of it. On Christmas, a woman wished my coat a happy holiday.

While these reactions may seem extreme, I’m not surprised. My coat is famous.

My coat is the yellow “Foxy Coat” with an oversized fluffy collar and cuffs. It has an undeniable aesthetic that warrants its own Hollywood Walk of Fame star. It’s by Danish brand Saks Potts, and it was the star of Fashion Week this past February; as The Cut put it, the coat ate Fashion Week.

The coat could be spotted everywhere, and wearing one guaranteed at least 20 street style photographs. Celebrities love the coat, too: Katy Perry wore a purple one to match her lipstick, Cardi B. wore one in lime green to match her hair, Lady Gaga channeled old-school Hollywood glam in a black version with her bleached blonde blowout, and Kendall Jenner made riding a Citibike look glamorous when she took a spin in NYC while wearing hers.

The coat has amassed hundreds of thousands of likes on Instagram. When Rosalía uploaded three consecutive photos in three different versions of the coat, she racked up 2,320,000 combined likes. The selfie I took after purchasing the coat was one of my most-liked photos of 2019. But just like all shiny, famous, popular things, the Saks Potts Foxy Coat has a high net worth. It’ll cost you around $2,000 and, since it’s made out of genuine fox fur, it’s something most shoppers can’t stomach when not bought secondhand like mine.

But if you want to own one of the most viral wardrobe items of 2019, Nordstrom has so many coats with a similar aesthetic, complete with statement collar and cuffs, available for as little as $119. Just be prepared to stop traffic when you wear it. Literally.
