But if 2020 taught me anything, it's that anything can happen — especially when shoes are involved. For many people, spending so much time at home this last year and a half led to a major focus on comfort. Birkenstocks and Uggs suddenly reigned supreme, but as Hot Vaxxed Girl summer approached, trend forecasters predicted a return to opulence. Sarah Jessica Parker agreed and wore platform gold heels all over the streets of New York City while actually working at her store, but other celebs and supermodels weren't on board, opting for a simple pair of Reebok sneakers instead. And now we have clogs, a controversial shoe that everyone seems to just now be agreeing on. Celine and Hermès had clogs on both the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 runway. Sarah Jessica Parker has been seen wearing clogs multiple times this month, and has actually been wearing the trend consistently since 1993. At the beginning of the summer Jennifer Garner wore a pair by the popular brand No. 6. And now, the shoe style can be found all over TikTok. Currently, #Clog has over 32 million views on the app. In Nordstrom's work revival section, which is specifically built for shopping for our eventual return-to-office wardrobe or upgrading your WFH looks, clogs are back in full force. There's more than a handful to choose from, and a pair shows up on nearly every page. Birkenstock has its own take on the look, which will likely be all over the off-duty model circuit in no time. Veronica Beard makes one of the most luxe clogs we've ever seen, with five perfect five-star reviews from obsessed Nordstrom shoppers. The popular brand Dansko, worn by many nurses who spend all day on their feet, has the $140 Beatrice clog, which features a memory foam footbed designed specifically for comfort. Clogs don't evoke the visceral reaction the classic Arizona Birkenstock sandal does, and they actually make sense, unlike the Hollywood-loved Golden Goose sneaker. And even if you were fully preparing on wearing nothing but Ugg boots for the next couple of months, clogs are a welcome addition to any fall wardrobe. Unlike most shoes that are known for being comfortable, clogs often have a heel or decorative features like big buckles and tiny embellishments that make them look fancy. They can easily dress up an outfit without being as uncomfortable as regular heels. If we're being honest, clogs might just be the least controversial controversial shoe ever — and we couldn't be more here for it. Shop the best clogs available at Nordstrom now, below.
