Not to be dramatic or anything, but I imagine my tombstone will someday read, “and she believed more than anything that leopard was a neutral,” since I’ve yet to meet a leopard print I didn’t like. But really, all jokes aside, that’s how dearly I hold this debated style.

Of course, like most good things, leopard print is best in small doses. Though Dolly and Fran will always be the original foremothers of making leopard work in a big way, some of today’s most stylish celebs have been endorsing the classic animal print with their choice in footwear. And since right now Nordstrom’s Winter Sale is in full swing, there’s never been a better time to take a walk on the wild side yourself, so to speak.

Reese Witherspoon recently took a break from her rotation of comfy sneakers and made a case for adding a bit of leopard to your shoe collection. While stepping out in Beverly Hills, she opted for a pair of leopard print pumps worn with a blazer and medium-wash jeans for an anchored, casual feel. Hilary Duff also took on the leopard print shoe trend with a pair of stiletto heel booties in a similar spotted pattern. Paired with distressed Levi’s 501 jeans and a graphic tee, the statement-print booties add an edge to the otherwise laidback outfit.

But for any trend to really have us pulling out our credit cards in 2020, it needs the Katie Holmes seal of approval. Spoiler: this one does. Holmes, our style sage ever since that fateful cashmere bra set, has been wearing a particular pair of leopard print loafers all winter. While hers come with a price tag of $675 and are currently sold out, seeing her wear them on repeat is just the co-sign needed to get on board with the trend if you, unlike me, weren’t already there.

Whether you’re more likely to reach for a pair of heels, sneakers, booties, or flats, Nordstrom’s Winter Sale has discounted options in many styles so you can get the celeb-approved trend for less. And because it is, without a doubt, a neutral, a good leopard print shoe is always a worthy investment.
