It’s made for drinking martinis.

Leave it to Meryl Streep to win a competition she didn’t even know she was a part of. While partaking in the livestreamed Take Me to the World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration on Sunday, Streep stole the show in a pair of purple tinted sunglasses, a plush white bathrobe, and a martini, already half consumed. It’s easily the best WFH fit anyone has ever seen. Normally this is the part where I say everyone else can just go home but we are all already home. So maybe we should all just stop trying, or at least stop trying to look like we’re trying. Because Meryl Streep is so much better at it all than the rest of us.

While I’ve been testing out every over-the-top look in my saved makeup folder on Instagram, Meryl Streep is doing a perfect performance of “The Ladies Who Lunch” with Christine Baranski and Audra McDonald au natural. I’m bending over backwards to somehow wear shoes in the house while also trying not to dirty my rug and Streep is out here kicking up her bare feet up on her desk. While I’ve been forcing myself to wake up and put on actual clothing to get my day started, Streep makes being alive at this time look easy, in just a bathrobe and sunglasses. Not to mention the martini, which really seals the deal here.

There are so many things about this viral moment that I love and have questions about. Aside from the obvious outfit component, I’m also enthralled by the empty bookcase she is sitting in front of. Why so empty? Is it for future awards? That martini, is it dirty? How does Meryl Streep somehow out-Meryl Streep herself every time? Will she save us all from this mess?

In all seriousness, her surprisingly laid-back WFH fit went viral not only because it involved Meryl Streep, but because it involved Meryl Streep being human. So what if we aren’t livestreaming gorgeous renditions of iconic songs to thousands on the internet while making space on our shelves for future Oscars? We can all throw on a bathrobe tonight while drinking a cocktail over FaceTime with our friends and consider it a move worthy of Meryl Streep herself. And even if she does it better, we can at least come close.
