Photo: Courtesy It's not often that an established clothing line collaborates with an up-and-coming paint company, but with splatter-paint designs and utility dressing on the rise, there's no better time than the present. So when I heard Madewell released a capsule collection with Backdrop, an internet paint company, it piqued my interest. Madewell is a clothing brand known for its classic styles and comfy jeans, while Backdrop is a paint company that brings ease and accessibility to DIY hopefuls. Needless to say, this limited-edition collection is a DIY lover or wannabe's dream. These Madewell Jeans Are the First Pants to Fit Me in Years Inspired by artists' workwear, the collection is dubbed Studio Hours and includes a new warm taupe paint color and apparel, such as a bucket hat, sneakers, overalls, and hooded sweatshirts, in the same neutral color. The pieces are just as appropriate for a comfy street style look as they are for actually unleashing your inner artist. Backdrop's knowledge of painter's shirts (tops that you wear while painting without fear of splatter) and Madewell's expertise for elevated leisurewear make this partnership a win, but these pieces look so good, you might not want to risk splattering paint all over them. Canvas Bucket Hat Courtesy Shop now: $35; madewell.com Bucket hats continue to be a must-have accessory to add a bit of playfulness to just about any outfit, so this collection wouldn't be complete without one. The taupe-colored bucket hat features both brands' logos and a front-facing pocket for you to stash the key to your theoretical art studio. Unisex Hoodie Sweatshirt Courtesy Shop now: $98; madewell.com An upgraded version of the Studio Hours T-shirt, this sweatshirt features the collection's logo and manages to have that soft, comfortable Madewell feel while remaining durable enough to carry you through plenty of DIY projects. Canvas Camden Tote Bag Courtesy Shop now: $78; madewell.com Whether you're a painting enthusiast, artist, or just someone who needs a good bag, this tote can fulfill your needs. Stash a gallon of paint, sketchbooks, a change of clothes, and more in this oversized neutral bag. Garment-Dyed Overalls Courtesy Shop now: $148; madewell.com It wouldn't be a collection of artists' workwear without a pair of classic overalls. These warm taupe overalls have plenty of pockets for your paintbrushes, and they already feel worn-in, so you can be comfortable and productive. Studio Hours Half-Gallon Interior Paint Courtesy Shop now: $45; madewell.com This signature taupe color will look just as good on your walls as it looks on you. Backdrop offers this color in a gallon paint can for $69, but they also provide it in a half-gallon size for $45. The smaller size is perfect for accent walls and small rooms, and it's Green Wise certified, low-VOC, and low-odor. Backdrop also includes a stir stick, painting instructions, and guidance, so whether it's your first time painting or your 200th, you'll be set up for success. But if you're only in it for the fashion, don't worry, we won't judge.
