Etro Celebrates It's 50th Anniversary With a Quintessentially "Etro" Collection
Etro’s spring collection took over the windows of the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship this week as part of an ongoing celebration of the Italian label’s 50th anniversary. And on Monday, creative director Veronica Etro drew a large crowd of fans to the store for a luncheon benefit, where she debuted an exclusive collection for the retailer that benefits New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
The new designs reflect Etro’s heritage through a scarf motif, with paisley prints that look lightly antiqued on robes, dresses, trousers, and knits.
“The idea was to do something very Etro, so of course there was a colorful paisley design in red, purple, and gold,” Etro said. “And there is this mixture of the paisley with more tassels and ethnic details, which really brings the whole story of the DNA of our background of 50 years.”
Seeing her designs in the windows downstairs, the enormity of Etro’s anniversary began to sink in.
“It’s a lot,” Etro said. “This is for my father, who started the company in ’68, but it’s still something that is flourishing and blossoming.”
