In the last two years, I bought my first pair of white sneakers, leaned into the dark academia aesthetic (and literary genre), and even looked to '80s fashion icons for style inspiration. Still, there are a select few clothing items and looks that continue intimidate me, particularly white jean outfits. Not only are white jeans the quintessential warm-weather denim choice, they've also become a fall, winter, and spring staple, too. However, I have yet to feel comfortable in a pair. This is for lack of choice — there are plenty out there! — but due fact that, admittedly, up until a year or two ago, I didn't "style" my clothes, I simply put a top and bottom together and went about my day. It's also because I mostly gravitated towards dark tops, black pants, and blue denim. White just seemed a little risky. So, We're Back to Wearing Black Dress Pants Everywhere, Huh? This year, however, I'm ready to shed my moody layers and brighten up my wardrobe for spring 2022, starting with a pair of white jeans. As for how to style said jeans, I browsed through hundreds of outfit photos for inspiration, and rounded up the best tips and tricks I could find, below. To get the look, grab your favorite button-down and tuck it into your bottoms. Drape a sweater over your shoulders (sleeves crossed or uncrossed), and complete the look with a pair of loafers or flats. Whether it's a colorful cardigan or sweater, footwear in an electric hue, or an eye-catching handbag, let your bright white jeans and a matching tee take a backseat to your accent-colored add-ons. Y2K Melodie Jeng/Getty Images The fashion stylings of Y2K are back for 2022, and it just so happens all the crochet tops, strappy designs, cutouts, popcorn tops, and bandanas-as-shirts bode well with bright white bottoms. Just add butterfly clips, a leather blazer, or a mini purse to really nail the throwback aesthetic. We've Been Home With Our Blankets for so Long, of Course Ponchos Are Coming Back With a Blazer Christian Vierig/Getty Images Think white jeans are exclusive to the nautical, beach town aesthetic? Think again. White bottoms are workplace appropriate, too, so when you're back from spring break, you can style the warm-weather staple for the office with a few easy tweaks: Swap out your cropped denim jacket for a smart blazer, and opt for loafers, flats, or a closed heel over toe-peeping sandals. In Skirt Form Christian Vierig/Getty Images White jeans come in pants, shorts, and skirts, so if you're looking for an alternative to your tried and true blue jean skirt, give its lighter counterpart a wear. It's the perfect shade for warm-weather months and super versatile. It can be dressed up with a bodysuit and blazer combo, or worn casually with a sweater on chillier afternoons or a flowy top and sandals when temperatures start to drop. With a Cropped Sweater Edward Berthelot/Getty Images As the seasons change and winter conditions attempt to do a 180 towards sunnier, warmer forecasts, you'll likely experience a handful of transitional days when the weather is very much unpredictable. These are the days you'll want to pair your favorite white jeans with a cute, cropped sweater so you can have your warmth, but stay cool, too. 13 Outfits to Wear On Those Weird, In-Between, 60-Degree Days Keep It Simple With a Statement Tank Top Melodie Jeng/Getty Images White jeans are daunting because they're so bold, but they don't necessarily have to be styled lavishly. A pretty white jeans outfit can be as simple as the bottoms paired with a tank top designed with subtle statement details, like tie sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, or a fun pattern. Or a Graphic Tee Melodie Jeng/Getty Images Another quick and easy white jeans outfit you can put together with minimal effort is to grab a graphic tee as your top. The shirt will be so busy, you don't even need to add accessories unless you feel like it. As for footwear, keep it casual with a pair of sneakers or boots. Summer Ready Christian Vierig/Getty Images Even if you aren't actually chilling seaside, you can still give your white jeans a beach-friendly spin with seasonal staples. Slip on a bralette or bathing suit top then layer a printed, short-sleeved button-down over it. A pair of flip flops or slides will complete this laid-back, Outer Banks-like look.
