After playing TV roles, like a psycho home-wrecker in American Horror Story and a go-getter journalist on The Hill in House of Cards, it looks like the actress is turning her attention to the big screen. She has a leading role in the sci-fi thriller Transcendence (also starring Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman) out in theaters April 17. Mike Sager sat down with Mara for the April issue (now available on newsstands and for digital download) and unearthed three Kate Mara tidbits: 1. She didn't actually work with Johnny Depp in Transcendence."It's just that we didn't film a single scene together," she tells InStyle of her co-star,because Depp's character (spoiler alert!) dies earlier on in the film. "We met once in the makeup trailer," she adds. " I was in a crazy wig. He wouldn't know me if he bumped into me. One day I'd like to work with Johnny Depp." 2. She's really into football. In fact, she can "throw a spiral." But that's because she's gridiron royalty: Her mother's family founded the Pittsburgh Steelers and her father's family owns the New York Giants. "I was the quarterback in high school flag football, but we were bad," she admits. "My sister and I weren't raised to be tomboys." 3. She describes her style as feminine with an edge. And she seeks designers who do just that, one of them being Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy.
