These Celebrity-Approved Jeans Have Been Around for 145 Years
Mark your calendars. On May 20, we're celebrating the birth of Levi's jeans. Well, it's not the exact birthday. But it's the day Levi's received a patent for the rivet pockets on the iconic 501 jeans, which you can find everywhere, from Macy's to Bloomingdale's. So each year the brand celebrates Levi's 501 Day on May 20. This year, marks the 145th birthday, so the brand is going all out, teaming up with celebrity stylist Karla Welch to create a limited-edition collection.
Welch is the fashion pro behind the many A-lister outfits—like Amber Heard, and Karlie Kloss. Plus she's the founder of the x karla brand. The Levi's x karla collaboration is a denim lover's dream. You'll find two new versions of the celebrity-approved Levi's 501 jeans, a fringe trucker jacket, Western-inspired shirts, plus a cool pleated jean.
“It’s all very customization focused,” says Welch. “I wanted to imagine what the future of vintage was. If people inhabit Mars 200 years from now, what are the kids going to wear? This idea of creating something that would eventually become an iconic piece of vintage clothing is the basis of the whole collection.”
Naturally, the campaign is filled with all of Welch's celebrity friends—like Amber Valletta, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Yara Shahidi. Even InStyle's Editor in Chief Laura Brown makes a cameo. What's even more exciting? Levi's is making a donation to the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund in honor of the collection. Now, that's what I call a win-win.
