For a large majority of people, myself included, the past year-plus has felt like a chaotic rollercoaster of emotions. Between stressing about a worldwide health crisis and dealing with a handful of personal ones, I'm not exaggerating when I say I'm able to laugh or cry at any given moment, and every so often, I manage to do both simultaneously.

And wouldn't you know it, but fashion is imitating life, and emotional clothing and accessories are emerging as a definitive trend. Smiley face shirts, sweaters, dresses, and more are suddenly everywhere, partially due to that nostalgic '90s influence and an overall mission to make getting dressed feel joyful again. In some cases, however, the classic emoji is pictured upside-down or frowning instead, sending a silent signal that the wearer might just be going through something today (or for the 300th consecutive day).
