We aren't trying to peel you away from your skinny jeans or tell you to stop wearing kick-flares, we promise. But, if you're hoping to welcome a different denim style into your wardrobe this spring, you might want to consider a style we're calling the carrot leg.

Despite its trendy and new-sounding name, this cut is actually a throwback to the 1980s. It's high-waisted, and sometimes includes pleats, but what sets the design apart is how it goes from loose up top to tight around the bottom of the leg. Chanel put a pair of carrot-leg jeans on its Spring 2020 runway, and seeing them styled with a striped shirt, jacket, and sandals quickly proved that these pants were just as versatile as our current favorites.

However, should you need just a little more proof that these babies belong in your rotation, we've found a few more outfit ideas worth viewing. Brands such as Shein, Michael Kors, and Ulla Johnson all make a mean carrot-leg jean, so you'll have plenty of options once you're ready to shop.

Balance out the high-waisted shape by opting for a cropped version or simply tuck in your shirt. Then, you can finish your look with a crisp pair of white sneakers.

We like to think of this '80s jean as a sort of statement piece. Keep the rest of your outfit simple and let them steal the spotlight.

Wear them with a solid, puff-sleeved sweater and square-toe heels in order to give them more of a fancy vibe.

They'll Easily Go With Whatever Is in Your Closet

A leather jacket, loafers, a blazer, a button-down — you really can pair this denim style with just about anything. They're as easy (and as comfy!) to wear as your favorite pair of mom jeans.

Once spring is over, you can break out your carrot legs for a cool summer night, styling them a bright tank or bralette and heels, just like Busy Philipps.
