Celebrities have made controversial shoe trends take off this summer. First, it was the revival of Birkenstocks, the "ugly" sandal that has graced the feet of Reese Witherspoon, Katie Holmes, and Kaia Gerber. Then, it was the rise of squishy pool slides, a water-repellant style that supermodels like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber can't stop wearing. And now, it's the emergence of ruched sandals, a slip-on shoe with ruffle detailing that we've spotted a handful of stars wearing.

Jessica Alba opted for a kelly green pair from Staud with a bright patterned midi skirt and a tied white button-down shirt for a trip to NYC and Jennifer Lawrence wore the same $265 sandal in caramel brown with a mustard yellow midi dress.

If that wasn't enough to convince us a seasonal trend is taking over, both Camila Cabello and Amelia Hamlin posted photos on Instagram within the past few months wearing different versions of the sandal. The singer wore a pair of ivory ruched strappy heels from Sam Edelman with an embroidered top and parachute pants, and the actress chose a neon orange platform pair from Boohoo to match her tie-dye bikini.

Ruching is a fabric technique that is often used on clothing to help cover areas of concern, especially in the stomach region, so it's a little surprising to see it on footwear.
