Photo: Courtesy of Manolo x Birkenstocks Manolo Blahnik and Birkenstock are two words I never thought I'd see in the same sentence. They're the extreme antithesis of each other. A Birkenstock girl and a Manolo girl are two completely different people, and only one of them was on Sex in the City. But the two iconic brands have teamed up for the most unexpected and highly anticipated collaboration of the year that just launched today. Arguably the two most famous pairs of Birkenstocks, the Boston Clog and the Arizona sandal, now look like something worthy of a place in Carrie Bradshaw's closet. The Manolo Blahnik treatment means they come in either classic leather with crystal embellishments, or a bright fuchsia and bold blue velvet — along with crystal embellishments, of course. Prices start at $680 and go up to $810. The collaboration is selling out at record speed, which likely has to do with the fact that for years, the Manolo girl and Birkenstock girl have been converging into one right before our eyes. I mean, Ashley Olsen wore the Birkenstock Boston clog. What more evidence do you need? One Instagram commenter on Manolo's most recent post says it best, writing that this collab is "for all of us ladies with bad knees from wearing those sky high Manolos all those years." The Manolo Blahnik x Birkenstock clogs and sandals have all of the opulence of a Manolo pump without the discomfort that comes with wearing heels for hours on end. Courtesy Shop now: $680; neimanmarcus.com For years fashion girls wouldn't be caught dead in Birkenstocks, but then there was a shift as more practical — and sometimes questionable — footwear became cool. Kendall Jenner wears Birkenstocks! Gwenyth Paltrow wears Birkenstocks! Katie Holmes wears Birkenstocks! Even Kaia Gerber and Cindy Crawford twin in Birkenstocks in socks. Antiquated style rules aren't as much of a thing now, which I'm grateful for because it allows these unexpected collaborations to take place. But if the launch is out of your price range, the classic Arizona Birkenstock is clearly just as accepted by the fashion community (supermodels included) and is fully in stock at Nordstrom — not to mention, it's hundreds of dollars cheaper. Courtesy Shop now: $160; nordstrom.com If Sex in the City took place today, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to assume that Carrie Bradshaw would pair classic Arizona Birkenstocks with a tutu and a crop top made out of a belt. But there's no denying that Manolo Blahnik x Birkenstock Arizona sandals and Boston clogs are the type of shoes she'd own in every color and wear on repeat. It's only a matter of time before the real-life Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker herself, wears one of these sandals on the red carpet — which will truly be an even more shocking yet apt sentence than the first one.
