As much as we live for sightings of celebs embracing on-the-pulse trends like fun mini bags and fuzzy teddy coats, there’s something to be said about any star who stands firm in their own signature style. A personal brand guided by classics and individual taste just hits different, as the young folks say, and it’s no surprise that Angelina Jolie is one timeless fashion muse we can’t get enough of.

Recently, the Maleficent: Mistress of Evil star stepped out wearing what may have just replaced her go-to airport loafers as our favorite comfy yet smart shoe of her’s. During a dog-walking outing with her daughter Vivienne, and then later again solo, the actress opted for classic ballet flats which she paired with cropped black cigarette pants, a long black coat, and oversized sunglasses.

The shoes in question are Chloé’s 'Lauren' Scalloped Ballet Flats, which are sophisticated and simple, but have no trouble standing out in a crowd thanks to their unique scalloped detailing. The warm taupe shade Jolie sported proved they look great with a uniform of black clothing, but the versatile neutral would also play nicely with just about anything in your wardrobe. Since she’s not one to part with a staple accessory that sticks, (Old Céline bag, we’re looking at you with heart eyes), any piece Jolie adds to her well-curated personal catalog is one worth taking notice of.

Nothing against the heels in our wardrobe, but there are just so many more occasions — and outfits — that call for comfy, grounded shoes. Thinking back to the early ‘10s (if that’s a thing yet), you’ll probably recall a time when it seemed like everyone was wearing ballet flats daily. The simple shoe was elevated to wardrobe-essential status, equivalent to a crisp, white shirt or perfectly fitting jeans, and has remained a reliable option ever since. While ballet flats might not be the first thing you’ve opted for lately, Jolie’s tendency to wear this standout pair with multiple looks makes a serious case for the footwear’s staying power.

The actress’ pair of leather Chloé flats sit at an investment-piece price point of $495, but there are plenty of similar options with the same classic look and neutral colorway that give the shoes the upgrade they deserve in 2020.
