This Baguette Bag Will Make You Wonder if It’s 2020 or 2002
Carrie Bradshaw, is that you?
To love fashion of the late-’90s and early 2000s is to love the baguette bag. Unfortunately inedible, the bag is nicknamed after its shape, which happens to resemble a perfectly baked stick of French bread. It hit peak popularity in the early aughts thanks to a few on-screen appearances, and is currently experiencing a major revival.
Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw famously toted around multiple versions of the Fendi baguette bag throughout Sex and the City’s six-year run, and the purse has since received a modern makeover suitable for wearing well into this new decade.
The rectangular bag was also immortalized by another television fashion icon of the same era, Rachel Green. Jennifer Aniston’s arm was often decorated with slim shoulder bags on Friends. In fact, it’s such a recognizable look that By Far created their own version of the retro purse last year, which is aptly named the Rachel Bag.
With this hallowed history in mind, we were stunned to discover a faux-crocodile baguette bag on Amazon for just $25 that, at first glance, could pass for a much more expensive designer purse. Taking cues from accessories of the aughts, the rectangular shoulder bag features a short strap, a top zipper closure, and a narrow body. With just enough room to comfortably store your keys, lipstick, and a 2020-sized phone, the purse pairs well with a night out dancing or an afternoon brunch.
Amazon shoppers say the bag is a great way to get in on the resurgence of late ‘90s and early-2000s trends without making a major investment. One reviewer called it the “perfect little baguette bag,” and another said they liked it so much, they ordered a second purse in a different color.
The retro faux-croc bag is available in six colors, including black, off white, yellow, and a multi-colored pattern. With durable hardware and practical synthetic leather, the bag is built to last — at least through another rotation of cyclical trends.
