20 Celebrity Siblings We Love
Actor Jake Gyllenhaal certainly has come along way since launching his career at age 10: The star of Nightcrawler, who turns 34 today, is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama for his turn in that film—and critics are buzzing that he may be up for an Academy Award for Best Actor as well.
Gyllenhaal got his start in 1999, playing a miner's son turned NASA engineer in October Sky. He followed up the role with 2001's indie cult-classic Donnie Darko, playing a troubled teenager alongside his older sister Maggie Gyllenhaal. In 2004, he starred in his first blockbuster, the disaster flick The Day After Tomorrow. The following year, Jake starred alongside the late Heath Ledger in the critically acclaimed Brokeback Mountain, for which he received his first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In 2015, he'll star as the lead in Southpaw, as a boxer fighting to make it to top as he deals with adversity, both in and out of the ring.
Of course, it didn't take long for him to reach his current heartthrob status. Thanks to his baby blues and ripped physique, Gyllenhaal currently is one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors. Get in line, ladies.
Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal
As the offspring of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner, the Gyllenhaals were destined for the big screen. They began honing their craft at a young age (Jake was only ten!), and went on to star as brother and sister in the much-loved science-fiction drama Donnie Darko in 2001.
Mary-Kate, Ashley, and Elizabeth Olsen
Mary-Kate and Ashley’s side-by-side displays of camaraderie in cult classic films like Billboard Dad and Holiday in the Sun made us want to have a twin for the better part of the ‘90s and early aughts. It wasn’t until Martha Marcy May Marlene was released in 2011, however, that most of us realized there was another sister in the mix as well. With several luxury brands, a production company, and already-established acting careers between them, Mary-Kate, Ashley, and Elizabeth are a familial force to be reckoned with.
James and Dave Franco
James Franco will always have a special place in our hearts, but when his little brother Dave came onto the scene in 2010’s Charlie St. Cloud, we were equally captivated by his good looks and hilarity. For now, Dave seems happy acting, so only time will tell if he’ll take a cue from his jack-of-all-trades older bro and try to master every other field of the arts too.
Khloe, Kourtney, and Kim Kardashian and Kylie and Kendall Jenner
From small screens to clothing boutiques to book deals, the Kardashian sisters are everywhere these days. And just when we thought we caught up, a new relative entered the picture as a full-blown model, stunning us when she not-so-subtly appeared in Marc Jacobs’s runway show this past fall. What's more, Kendall and her sister Kylie ( second from left) helped co-design a clothing collection for PacSun. We expect to see more from this clan in the future (and baby North too).
Beyonce and Solange Knowles
She may have crowned herself Queen B, but every monarch needs a sidekick, and there’s no one better than a sister. Bey wows us on a daily basis with her colorful, curve-hugging outfits and too-cute-for-words Instagrams, and we’re waiting with bated breath for Solange’s new album to drop.
Cara and Poppy Delevigne
Having modeled for brands like Burberry and Alberta Ferretti, Poppy Delevingne definitely blazed the trail for little sis Cara. The younger Delevingne took the fashion world by storm in 2011 after being featured in Burberry’s spring/summer campaign, and she hasn't left the spotlight since. With her career taking off (and a buzzed-about romance brewing), it’s nice to know that Cara has an older, wiser sister to lean on.
Rooney and Kate Mara
Despite the Mara sisters' demure poses and high-fashion ensembles, they actually hail from a big sports family. The actress’ mother’s family founded the Pittsburgh Steelers, and their father’s family founded the New York Giants. With mugs too pretty to hide under helmets, the sisters opted for screens over stadiums, starring in films like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the much-talked-about Netflix drama House of Cards.
Jessica and Ashlee Simpson
We first met Jessica’s younger sis when she appeared on her now-defunct reality TV show Newlyweds, and got to know her even better on her subsequent spin-off, The Ashlee Simpson Show. After years in the entertainment industry, the two sisters—and their two kids!—remain closer than ever: they’ve even co-designed a collection of tween apparel as part of Jessica’s namesake label, the Jessica Simpson Collection.
Elle and Dakota Fanning
At 16 and 20 years old respectively, we’re amazed the level of maturity Elle and Dakota Fanning exude on a daily basis. And their time management skills must be top-notch, too: Both of the sisters have juggled a rigorous high school schedule with major acting roles, including Somewhere and Twilight. Fun fact: Elle Fanning attends Campbell High School (where Dakota graduated in 2011)—the same school where Mary-Kate and Ashley went.
Paris and Nicky Hilton
The great-granddaughters of Conrad Hilton, Paris and Nicky Hilton have stolen the limelight together as heiresses turned socialites turned businesswomen.
Chris, Luke, and Liam Hemsworth
Aussies Chris and Liam have stolen our hearts as some of Hollywood's hottest movie stars, and Luke has made a name for himself on the small screen as Nathan in the Australian soap opera Neighbours.
Gigi and Bella Hadid
These two siren siblings have skyrocketed to super model fame in the last few years walking in virtually every show from Chanel to Versace and Balmain to Dolce and Gabbana.
Kate and Oliver Hudson
While Kate stands as reigning queen of the romantic comedy movie genre, big brother Oliver has held starring roles in big television series, like Rules of Engagement and Nashville.
Hilary and Haylie Duff
From Disney channel stars to some of our favorite moms in Hollywood, the Duff sisters have stayed on our radar and our screens for years.
Jaden and Willow Smith
Will and Jayda Smith have a lot to be proud of. Jaden and Willow have stolen the fashion scene in recent years, landing campaigns with Louis Vuitton and Chanel respectively.
John and Joan Cusack
John and Joan Cusack have collectively starred in some of our favorite movies throughout the years, making them possibly the most classic celebrity sibling duo we can think of.
Kelly and Jack Osbourne
If any siblings could encourage us to step outside of the box and be a little different, it's definitely the punky, but always stylish Osbournes.
Luke and Owen Wilson
We love a man with a sense of humor so what could be better than two equally hilarious brothers? The Wilson brothers never fail to make us crack up when they're on screen together or separate.
Nicole and Sofia Richie
When it comes to stylish big sisters, Sofia Richie has definitely hit the jackpot with Nicole. And from the looks of the younger Richie's up and coming style sense, Nicole has provided plenty of fashion inspo for years to come.
Serena and Venus Williams
When it comes to a duo that serves up equal parts fitspo and style inspo, we can't think of a more perfect pair than the Williams sisters.
