Zendaya and John David Washington's Secret Quarantine Movie Is Coming to Netflix
Malcolm & Marie is on the way!
At least one good thing has come out of quarantine: Zendaya and John David Washington (very carefully) made a movie with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. And while those mere facts alone would be enough for us to pre-order the poster, there’s MORE …
As of this weekend, Malcolm & Marie has reportedly been acquired by Netflix. And, understandably, the streaming giant didn’t need to watch the film to make their call. According to Indiewire, it was purchased (for “near $30 million”) based on the promo alone.
Zendaya recently opened up to InStyle about the production of the film and how, given circumstances, she did her own and hair and makeup and wore her own clothes. "Our crew was a very small group of people who are also from Euphoria. And the No. 1 thing was safety. Everyone had to quarantine and get tested in order to shoot in isolation. We created our own little bubble and made sure that once we were in, we couldn't leave. We were able to workshop and rehearse together — it was very much like a play," Zendaya mused.
The mysterious black-and-white movie, shot in L.A. between June 17 and July 2, is said to focus on a filmmaker (Washington) returning home after a film premiere with his girlfriend (Zendaya) and the unexpected fallout that follows.
Thanks, Netflix! Now, slip us that release date and we’ll start on the popcorn.
