She wasn't "worthy."

Back in 2011, there was one very famous royal missing from the guest list at Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding: Sarah Ferguson, aka Fergie, the Duchess of York. Die-hard royal-watchers saw it as a major slight to one of the most prominent royals, though an incident with News of the World could have explained why she wasn't there. In a new interview, Ferguson explained that she felt like she wasn't "worthy" of an invite and shared where she went instead (spoiler: it was far, far away).

Entertainment Tonight notes that before Will and Kate's big day, Fergie promised a News of the World reporter the chance to speak to Prince Andrew for £500,000 (about $690,000). Because of that scandal, Fergie notes, she figured she wouldn't have the honor of attending her nephew's wedding.

"I didn't think I was probably worthy to go to their wedding," Ferguson told Town & Country. "I took myself to Thailand, actually, to be far away from it so that I could try and heal."

And while Ferguson didn't make it to that royal wedding, she did attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials. She said it was a great feeling to be involved and that everyone made her feel welcome.

"It was very kind of them, and I can't thank them enough for doing that because it was nerve-wracking," she said, adding that hearing the spectator's cheers felt "quite extraordinary."
