There were screaming women in the audience, a sensual opening monologue (where he wears an incredible Alexander McQueen jacket), and, of course, plenty of Bridgerton references. But nothing could have prepared us for the hilarious sketch entirely devoted to the Netflix drama. Towards the end of his appearance, Page spoofed his own show, poking fun at its many sex scenes. "I burn for you, Daphne," Page said as his character Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings, while rehearsing alongside his co-star Phoebe Dynevor (played by Chloe Fineman). "And cut! Oh my gosh, guys amazing. Such passion, that was great," said the "director" Kate McKinnon, before bringing out a pair of intimacy coordinators. "Now this next scene involves nudity and simulated intercourse so we're gonna clear the set and Regé, Phoebe we're gonna have a brief rehearsal with the intimacy coordinator to make sure you're comfortable with the scene," McKinnon continued. After learning that their usual coach Paula won't be there due to possible COVID exposure, McKinnon introduces Page and Fineman to replacements, Richie and Randy — played by Pete Davidson and Mikey Day. "We've worked in special effects for years," Day said. "But not a lot of people get puked on in movies because of COVID so we took a Zoom and got certified to do all the sex scene stuff." Admitting that they didn't read the script ahead of filming, Day added, "We get the gist. You two are brother and sister, you banging each other. Good stuff." As expected, things go downhill from there. Phoebe Dynevor Discussed What It Was Like Filming That Masturbation Scene In reality, Page recently revealed that the sex scenes aren't uncomfortable to shoot at all, thanks to the show's intimacy coach, Lizzy Talbot. "We had an intimacy coordinator, so everything is choreographed," Page explained during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show earlier this month. "It takes the risk and the embarrassment out of the scene." Dynevor also compared the intimate scenes to "stunts" during an interview with Glamour, adding that she never felt "exposed in any way."
