Prince George's Latest Birthday Portrait Has a Sweet Tribute to Prince Philip
After reports warned (threatened?) royal fans that they might not be getting a birthday portrait of Prince George this year, Kate Middleton and Buckingham Palace relented, sharing a new snapshot of the future king to honor his eighth birthday tomorrow. The tradition continued with the shot being shared from the Cambridges's social media channels.
In keeping with past portraits, the latest photos were taken by Kate and this year's show George wearing a striped blue-and-orange polo shirt and dark blue shorts. People notes that there's a subtle homage to the late Prince Philip, with George sitting on a Land Rover, a favorite car of Queen Elizabeth's husband.
"Turning eight(!) tomorrow 🥳🎂" the photo's caption reads on Instagram and Twitter.
Last year, George's photo showed him wearing a dark green polo and a big smile. According to Page Six, the big day came with another huge development: Kate and Prince William told George that he was third in line to the British throne.
