Meghan Markle's First Podcast Has a Name and a Very Fitting Theme

Her new Spotify series is set to premiere this summer.

UPDATE 3/24/22 at 10:30 a.m.: A week after it was announced that Meghan Markle's new podcast would premiere on Spotify this summer, the streaming service went on to confirm the name and theme of the series. In a press release, it was revealed that Archetypes (a nod to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's nonprofit organization Archewell) will "investigate the labels that try to hold women back" and "uncover the origin of these stereotypes and have uncensored conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape narratives."

It's something that Meghan can relate to. Back when she was a full-time royal (and still to this day), the tabloids often painted her in a negative light, twisting the truth and drumming up false stories.

"This is how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us . . . but where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives?" asks Meghan in a teaser. "This is Archetypes — the podcast where we dissect, explore, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back. I'll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And I'll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place."

UPDATE 3/17/22 at 4:30 p.m.: We have a release date for Meghan Markle's highly anticipated podcast. An Archewell Audio spokesperson confirmed the news to People, saying that the duchess's first podcast series is set to launch this coming summer.

Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, shared an initial holiday episode back in 2020 with a star-studded lineup including Elton John, Tyler Perry, Stacey Abrams, and James Corden. Following the COVID-19 misinformation controversy involving Spotify and Joe Rogan's podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, the duke and duchess worked closely with the streaming platform to ensure the company's strong principles and values aligned with theirs. The podcast now has a launch date of Summer 2022.

Previously: The incredibly oversaturated world of podcasting just got even more crowded. On Tuesday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their partnership with Spotify, which will host their Archewell Audio podcast.

In an adorable special clip, the Sussexes shared the news (or, well, Harry did — at Meghan's urging: "Say it. I think it sounds really nice with your accent"). The couple voiced their plan to "bring forward different perspectives and voices" in their new podcast, which launches later this month with a holiday special.

"We're talking to some amazing people," Markle said. "They're going to share their memories that have really helped shape this past year, which has been, as we know, a difficult one for everyone."

Despite the immense hardships this year has presented, Harry added that "It feels worth acknowledging that 2020 has connected us in ways we could have never imagined, through endless acts of compassion and kindness."

I guess I just became someone who listens to podcasts.
