Amongst the stellar front row lineup was Liam Payne, who arrived solo without girlfriend Cheryl Cole and their adorable son, Bear, at the Sept. 17 event. Looking beyond dashing in a crushed velvet suit and a rather racy bare ankle (swoon!), the singer certainly seemed to be gaining confidence in his solo look.
Catching up with us before the show, Liam talked about the pressure to succeed after being in the worldwide force that was One Direction. “It was something that put me off at the start, I had great people around me with great management and an amazing team around me and now here we are further down the line with great success!" he said.
He continued, “it’s been fantastic going out on my own—a lot of things are changing in this industry—like when you look at how streaming works, especially in America. So it’s taking a while to get the next single out. It’s my favorite track on the album, so it’s killing me a bit!”
Music aside, just how excited was Payne for his first Armani show? “I am super excited—this is the first women’s fashion show I have been to!” he said. When prompted if he is going to be giving his spouse some sartorial advice post-show, he remarked, “I suppose that is what I can do for the rest of the night and be like, ‘ohhh that would look great!’”
It’s safe to say Liam was vibing at Armani too. "At the moment it all about the ‘street.' I have worn joggers with a suit jacket tonight for instance. I think music is taking over fashion at the moment with a lot of grime music around!” he added.
Could we expect him to turn designer in the future? “There are a lot of brands doing small capsule collections and that’s something I would like to do myself. Who knows? The possibilities are endless!" he said. Only time will tell.
Of course, Payne wasn't the only A-lister hitting the Emporio Armani front row as he took his place next to Ellie Goulding and British actress Millie Brady.
