I kind of recognized the voice, but I'm not one to really go up to celebrities,” Shannon McKee told Today. After realizing the woman in question was Gaga, McKee decided there was more she needed to say. "I did have a story that I wanted to share with her, and I felt this need that she needed to hear it from me," McKee continued. "And so when I went back, I was like, 'Hey, you're Lady Gaga, right?’" McKee told the singer that her best friend in high school was a huge fan, explaining that Gaga was “the reason he actually came out to her.” She added that her friend’s first five tattoos were inspired by the singer and that her brother had recently come out to her as well. “I just wanted to say thank you for being such an incredible ally,” McKee told her. Gaga, who was out with boyfriend Michael Polansky at the time, told McKee to tell her friend that she loves him, explaining that she wasn’t comfortable posing for a photo so close to her home. Instead, Gaga gave McKee the leather jacket she’d complimented earlier.
