Kristin Davis Could Have Played Monica Geller on' Friends'

The cast of Friends could have looked a little different if things went Kristin Davis's way. During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, she explained that back in the '90s, she had auditioned to be on the beloved sitcom and, well, it didn't work out.

Instead, the role went to her pal, Courteney Cox, and Davis landed the role of Charlotte York on Sex and the City. During her chat with Corden, she kept things real, saying that while she auditioned, she didn't think that she stood out from the huge group of women who were up for the role.

"I don't think that we can say quite close, okay," she said. "I think I was one of like, 8,000 young ladies who read for Monica and Courteney Cox got her."

Davis went on to say that she was happy for Cox and that they were friends when she landed the role. While she didn't realize that Friends would become a huge phenomenon, Cox did — and celebrated in a big way.

"Courteney and I were in the same yoga class at the time and we used to hang out," she continued. "The rest of us were, like, unemployed actor-waitresses types and we would hang out after class. One day, Courteney was like, 'Hey, guys. Do you want to come car shopping with me? We were like, 'Wow, car shopping!' [Courteney] said, 'I did this pilot, I'm feeling really good about it. I think I'm going to buy a Porsche.' We were like, 'Wow, is she for real?' It was Friends, and it did go very well."

Davis did end up on the show, however, as a guest star. She played one of Joey (Matt LeBlanc)'s dates, Erin in 2000.

"Sex and the City was in production, but I was nervous to be the tiny character of Erin [on Friends]," she told Today of the experience. "[I was] losing sleep partly because of the live audience, but partly because you're in this world that has been created that is so alive and so specific and you're trying to make sure you're fitting yourself in there properly."

"I remember, like, 'Will I set that joke up okay? Will Matt [LeBlanc] be happy? Will I just go blank?'" she added. "Things go through your head when you're in those situations that are heightened like that. Obviously, it was the highest of the high at that point."
